Darjeeling is a hilly town in India’s West Bengal state, in the Himalayan foothills. Darjeeling is famed for the typical black tea grown on plantations that dot its surrounding slopes.

There are 4,000 different types of flowering plants in Darjeeling district including rhododendrons, orchids, magnolia etc. and some 300 types of ferns including the rare fern trees. The friendly natives like the Nepalis, Tibetans and Lepchas will make you feel perfectly at home as you enjoy the fabulous weather and charm of the place.

Places to Visit in Darjeeling

Tiger Hill

One of the most famous peaks in Darjeeling, Tiger Hill can be reached either by jeep or by foot which transverses through some of the oldest tea plantations in Darjeeling. The place is best known as a trekking destination and its peaks offer some of the most marvelous views of the Kanchendzonga and the Mt. Everest.

Darjeeling Himalayan Railway

The most famous attraction in Darjeeling, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) is also known as the ‘Toy Train’. It is a narrow gauge rail that is 2ft in width and runs between Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri and was built in the years between 1879 and 1881.

Singalila National Park

Located at an altitude of approximately 2134 meters above sea level, the Singalila National Park is situated in the highest regions of West Bengal.

The park is known for its amazing peaks and the panoramic views of the lesser Himalayas. The National Park is famous as a trekker’s paradise with a large verity of mountainous vegetation, fauna, and birds.

The wildlife includes rare and endangered species like the Red Panda, Black Bear, Leopard, Tigers, Clouded Leopard, Serow, Leopard Cat, Barking Deer, Yellow-throated Marten, Wild Boar, Pangolin and Takin.

Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park

Known for its famous Red Panda and Snow Leopard breeding program, the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is spread in an area of 67.56 acres. The zoo is located at an average elevation of 2,134 meters above sea level and is the largest high altitude zoos in India.

Batasia Loop

Batasia Loop can be visited when the famous ‘Toy Train’ makes its way across a looped track that transverses through some beautiful parks. The place is famous for housing a Gorkha war memorial and while in the toy train you can witness a 360 degrees view of Darjeeling.

The loop covers an area of 50,000 square feet and transverses spirally into tunnels, landscaped parks and hillocks in this 1,000 feet high descent. The local crafts market located nearby is a must visit.

Peace Pagoda

Built during 1885-1985 by a Japanese Buddhist monk Nichidatsu Fuji, the Japanese Peace Pagoda is a part of 30 such structures across the world.
This Buddhist shrine is located amidst some really enticing locations and is built in a beautiful white structure with golden colored sculptures. The structure is 23 sq meters wide and 28.5 meters high.

Sikkim, situated on a edge at 5500 feet height, is a beautiful hill station and the hub of different activities of this North-East Indian state.

Gangtok is the capital and the largest city of Sikkim. Established as a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the 1840s, the city became capital of an independent monarchy after British rule ended, but joined India in 1975.

Today, it remains a Tibetan Buddhist center and a base for hikers organizing permits and transport for treks through

Sikkim’s Himalayan mountain ranges.

Nestled in the clouds and surrounded by the plush greenery, deep valleys and scenic view of Khangchendzonga (Kanchenjunga), the beautiful hill town is a business, political, cultural, education and tourism hub of the state.

Rumtek Monastery

Rumtek Monastery also known as Tibetan Monastery, is a must see place during your Gangtok tour.

Himalayan Zoological ParkA Home to Rare to Endangered Species of Animals, this beautiful zoological park is a home to a wide species of Himalayan fauna like the black beer, barking deer, snow leopard, civet cat, red pandas and the spotted deer.

Nathula PassThis is an Indo-China border at an altitude of about 14200 ft. Nathula is around 55 km from Gangtok covered with a variety of alpine flora and fauna. It is open only for Indian Nationals.

Tsomgo Lake

Also known as the Source of Lakes and Chhangu Lake, this is situated on an altitude of 12000 ft. above sea level on Gangtok-Nathula Highway. It is a home of Ruddy Shelduck or Brahminy ducks.

Tashi View Point

It is a must see destination during Sikkim tour. Tashi View Point offers the amazing view of Mt Kanchenjunga and other neighboring hills.
